Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 18 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (454 g) lean ground Ontario pork
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp (10 mL) Italian seasoning
- 1/4 tsp (1 mL) hot pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) canola oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
- 1 can (398 mL) tomato sauce

- 4 kaiser buns,
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) shredded mozzarella (optional)
Cooking Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine pork with garlic, Italian seasoning and hot pepper flakes; set aside.
- In a large non-stick skillet, heat oil over medium heat and cook onion and pepper for about 3 minutes or until softened. Add pork mixture and salt; cook, breaking up with spatula for about 6 minutes or until no longer pink.
- Stir in tomato sauce and barbecue sauce and bring to a simmer. Simmer, stirring often for about 8 minutes or until thickened slightly.
- Place bottom halves of buns onto plates and top with sloppy joe mixture. Sprinkle with cheese, if using. Sandwich with top bun to serve.
Tip: Use this mixture to spread over oven baked fries and sprinkle with cheese for a delicious new “sloppy” fries dinner idea.
