Fairs and Farmers: A Perfect Pairing

Once our family’s back-to-school routine is firmly in place, there’s nothing I love more than taking a day trip out of the city to visit one of Ontario’s beautiful, picturesque small towns. It could just be for a drive or a wander through village shops but more often than not, it’s to take in a local fair.

We pile in the car, roll down the windows and breathe in that fresh, crisp country air. Within an hour we’ve left behind grey concrete and are surrounded by fields and forests of gold and amber. It reminds me every…single…time about how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful province.

Fairs are more than midways and carnival games. They offer a great opportunity to see and sample the season’s local harvest and to meet the farmers who produce it. Farmers work hard all year to feed their families as well as the people of Ontario. They love being able to talk to you about their passion for agriculture as well as answer any questions you might have about where your meat, fruit and vegetables come from.

Calendars fill up fast once the kids are back at school, but carve out some time before the weather gets cooler to get out to a local fair and meet one of the many Ontario farmers helping to feed our province.

If you can’t wait until September, Ontario Pork will be at the CNE. Come on by to meet Ontario pork farmers and see our popular Pig Mobile!
Got questions about pigs but can’t get to a fair to meet a farmer? No worries! We’ve got you covered, you can check out our ALL About Pigs FAQ.
